Therapeutic Recreation Division

• Adults with Disabilities Night Out is a once a month opportunity for adults to interact with peers and meet new people.  Every month is a different activity: Bowling Parties, Sweetheart Dance, the Rodeo, Bowling, Karaoke and much more.  Ages are 16 and up.  There is not a fee for these activities.  Flyers are sent out monthly for each activity, call in registration is required.

• Adults Day out is a new program that is every two months which is modeled after our Adults Night Out program but for adults to get to socialize during the day.  Every two months we have a different activity:  Swimming Party, Bingo Day, Movie and Lunch, and much more.  Flyers are sent out two weeks in advance for registration.

• Every December DPRD holds a two day Christmas celebration for the ESS classes in Dalton City and Whitfield County school systems.  Classes bring handmade ornaments to decorate our trees and each has the opportunity to perform a skit or song they have practiced.  For elementary students there is a puppet show and high school and middle schools have a dance with a DJ.  Santa makes an appearance and lunch is served.  Fun is had by all!

• Camp Sunshine is a seven week summer camp for children with mild to moderate disabilities. Campers will swim daily; have weekly field trips, and plenty of fun.  This is not extended school but campers will be on a schedule to help make transition back to school easier.  Campers can bring their own lunch or take advantage of the free summer lunch program offer by Dalton City Schools. Camp fee is $50.00 weekly and is for ages 8-16.

• New this year is Camp Rising Sun for ages 5-7.  It is a three day a week, seven week program for children with mild to moderate disabilities.  Campers will swim daily, work on life and social skills, and have plenty of fun.  This is not extended school but campers will be on a schedule to help make transition back to school easier.  Campers can bring their own lunch or take advantage of the free summer lunch program offer by Dalton City Schools. Camp fee is $30.00.  Camp days are Monday, Wednesday, and Friday.
